Bike Week Squeeking Through
With all the negative publicity and the City of Myrtle Beach trying to shoo them out, Bike Week roles on -- only much quieter than usual.
The City of Myrtle Beach had enough of the complaints, increase in crime and, apparently, all the money that comes along with Bike Week. They passed numerous laws to discourage the bikers from coming into to town, yet they still did.
We are half way through 2009's bike week, and although the numbers aren't yet in, it seems to be a much more quieter rally than usual.
Typically when Bike Week is going on, you can hear the rumblings of Harleys for miles. Now, outside of the main highway in front of the beach, you barely notice bikes on the road at all.
But that doesn't mean they're not here. They have numerous shows and events listed and they plan to continue on as usual.
Businesses are still offering Bike Week deals to encourage the leather bound riders' business.
Medievel Times is offering $10.00 off admission to their show. While Ocean Creek, Caravell and Sea Watch Resort are all offering 25% off.
It's clear that many businesses still appreciate the income driven in by bike week. Now the only concern is will the annual rally return next week if there is a low turn out. Or will they take their show on the road?
