7 Myrtle Beach Courses in Golf Digest's New Top 100
Golf Digest just announced its new list for "Top 100 Public Courses You Can Play" for 2009-2010 and South Carolina has the most courses on the list with 11, seven of which are from the Grand Strand.
The ranking is determined by average score from 900 panelist from across the country. The panelist are judging the courses on seven different categories (Shot Values, Design Variety, Resistance to Scoring, Memorability, Aesthetics, Conditioning and Ambiance) which are rated from 1 to 10. They then average each individual category, they double the Shot Values as it's seen as the most important, and the course with the highest ranking wins.
Shockingly, Pine Valley was knocked out of the number one position for only the second time in 25 years in America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses rankings. In 2001 by Pebble Beach and now by Augusta National Golf Club.
But not surprisingly there are seven courses that cracked the list for the "Top 100 Public Courses You Can Play":
The Dunes Golf and Beach Club is No. 38, Tidewater Plantation and Golf is No. 41, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is No. 66, the Grande Dunes Resort Course is No. 77, Barefoot Resort's Fazio Course is No. 96 and Barefoot's Dye Club is No. 99
